The Prime minister recited a line from one of Popcaan’s popular songs “Give me the energy mi need Jah, you keep me firm and strong.” It is good that the popular dancehall artiste has decided to use his fame to improve St. Thomas, his home parish.
Andre Sutherland aka Popcaan is ready to assist with the youth as he collaborates with the Government and other stakeholders in the development of the Urban Centre in Morant Bay, St Thomas. He asked the Prime minister to involve him in projects for the youth, as he pledged full allegiance to the cause.
The PM described him as a strong advocate for the people in his parish, it is obvious that Popcaan has a heart for the people and what he is doing is deeper than the music.
The project for which Popcaan and the Pm broke ground will be a hub for St. Thomas’ Municipal authorities. Popcaan wants to use his influence to help the youth to follow the path that leads to prosperity and development. The PM spoke about the influence that the artistes have on the youth and encourages them to use it in a more positive manner.
The new hub will be built on the grounds of a factory that was closed in 1997. The new building will be a home for the St. Thomas Municipal Corporation, business process outsourcing companies (call centre), conference centre, a town hall, a conference centre, justice square (a Family Court and a Parish Court) tax office, and a PICA or Passport, Citizenship and Immigration Agency office.
There is a new energy in St. Thomas and other places in Jamaica, after years of waiting for development, there is a buzz of activities and the people are very optimistic.
PM Holness sated online “There’s a new energy flowing through Jamaica; we can see it in the buzz of activities taking place and in the optimism of our people. St Thomas is now part of this new wave as after years of little to no development its time has come!”
