Dancehall star Popcaan was fined a total of 10,000 today after pleading guilty to several traffic offences in the Yallahs Traffic Court located in St Thomas. Popcaan whose real name is André Sutherland was fined $2,000 for driving without insurance coverage, $2,000 for driving without a helmet, $3,000 for having no valid certificate of fitness and another $3,000 for driving an unlicensed motorcycle.
According to the police, while acting on information on April 26th, the ‘Unruly Boss’ was found to be a part of a 9-vehicle convoy that was intercepted by the lawmen.
After several checks were carried out, Popcaan was found to be in breach of multiple sections of the Road Traffic Act which includes driving an unlicensed motorcycle, driving without insurance coverage, having no valid certificate of fitness, having no registration plate affixed. He was also charged for driving without a helmet, driving with no side-view mirror and driving without a driver’s licence.
The charge of having no registration plate affixed was dropped in the end.
While in front of the Yallahs Traffic Court back in June, Popcaan reportedly denied the allegations made by the police and detailed that he was not riding a bike when the police approached him and the bike in question was parked on the side of the road when the police arrived.
Popcaan took to Twitter hours ago to joke about the situation, “I said guilty” he wrote along with laughing emojis as seen below.
