Popcaan Reflects On His Life So Far

On Monday, popular Dancehall artiste Popcaan shared a picture with fans on Instagram of himself taken some years ago and reflected on his journey so far.

Popcaan posted a photo appearing to be from the early 2000s with the self-proclaimed 876GUD in one of the decade’s definitive poses. Reflecting on his life the 33-year-old musician wrote: “It was never easy, it wasn’t always glowing, but I always put God 1st and believe in myself!!! My blessings can never be stopped!!! I was born to be Great. #GIHE”

Popcaan’s girlfriend, Toni-Ann Singh, reached out in the comments to show her support and said he was a young legend. Just hours earlier the former miss world shared a photo of her and the artiste writing that there could only be one.

Popcaan, born Andrae Hugh Sutherland, joined Vybz Kartel’s Gaza Music Empire in 2008 and released their hit “Clarks” in 2010. Over the years he has seen his share of controversies and mishaps both in the music industry and the law, his most recent legal dilemma leading to a lawsuit against the Jamaican government.

But Popcaan’s many achievements can not be denied, with the artiste making a name for himself apart from the Gaza camp and becoming one of Jamaica’s highest ranking artistes with hits such as “Firm and Strong” and “El Chapo”. He is also making his mark on the international stage, collaborating with artistes such as Drake, Burna Boy and Jamie Foxx to name a few.
