A dispute over food led to the death of 29-year-old Calvin Sidney, who was stabbed by his pregnant girlfriend. Sidney and his girlfriend, 33-year-old Keshia Golden, had an altercation regarding reheating food in the microwave that resulted in the death of Sidney, while Golden was arrested and charged.
According to the preliminary reports, the couple attended a baby shower and returned to their home in Chicago, Illinois, USA, around three in the morning. At home, a fierce fight ensued from a disagreement about who should use the microwave. The dispute became physical when Sidney pushed Golden, who is reportedly eight months pregnant, onto the counter after she had knocked a plate of food out of his hands.
The authorities indicated that Sidney’s uncle broke up the fight, but after Sidney angrily went into a bedroom, Golden reportedly stabbed him inside the room. Allegedly, she used a knife to stab him in the leg, dropped the weapon, and left the apartment. After being transported to the hospital, Sidney died from a femoral artery cut. Golden was subsequently arrested on October 23 and charged with first-degree murder.
Last week, prosecutors detailed the couple’s history of violence towards one another during a bail hearing, during which Golden was told to pay $2 million. Golden’s defence lawyer, Julie Koehler, stated that the $2 million bail order was excessive because her client would need to deposit a $200,000 bond to be freed.
During one of the couple’s brawls, the police were called five times regarding domestic violence. In this incident, Sidney choked, slapped, punched, and pushed Golden, but she did not press charges. Golden obtained a restraining order against Sidney in July 2022 after he hit her in the face. In August, Golden slashed his neck, and Sidney needed medical attention but decided not to press charges.
