The Appeal for the murder conviction of Vybz Kartel and his co-accused is now at an advanced stage. This was revealed after a letter was sent out by Kartel’s lead lawyer, Queens Counsel, Tom Tavares Finson. Even though there was a delay of about one and a half years, the preparation of the ruling could finally end soon.

Vybz Kartel and his fans have waited for 18 months to hear the judgment from the Court of Appeal.

Sources revealed that on November 21, 2019, Mr. Tavares Finson wrote to Justice Dennis Morrison, the Court of Appeal President and asked about the delay in the ruling, that is to be handed down.

In July 2018, prosecutors made their case to the Court of Appeal and asked the tribunal to rule that the defence lawyer had not made a sufficient case for them to free Kartel.

An application by defence lawyers for four pieces of new evidence to be used in the appeal was accepted by the Court of Appeal, during the hearing.

The lawyers said the meta-data from Kartel’s phone did not show where he could be at the crime scene.

In 2018 when the hearing ended, the Court of Appeal revealed that judgement would be handed down later in the air.
Yet it has been 18-months, and this has been the first time that there is an indication that the judge’s decision, might arrive soon.

In 2011, Vybz Kartel, Kahira Jones, Shawn Storm and Andre St. John were found guilty for the murder of Clive Lizard Williams.

In a letter dated December 2, 2019, the registrar told Mr. Tavares Finson that she was asked to inform him and the other lawyers who are representing Kartel and his co-appellants that the Appeal Court Judges via the Court Registrar responded to Mr. Tavares Finson and other attorneys for Kartel and his co-appellants that the preparation of the ruling is at an advanced stage at this time.
