Reggae Boy “Speedy” Williams Signs for Colorado Springs Switchbacks

In an announcement on Thursday, Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC confirmed it had signed Reggae Boyz midfielder Devon “Speedy” Williams ahead of the 2023 United Soccer League Championship season. While living and launching his professional football career in the United States, the Jamaican 30-year-old has had plenty of success during his time abroad, with a remarkable title cabinet to match.

With three Championship titles under his belt, Williams brings a vast wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the Springs. Having won a trophy in 2016 with the New York Red Bulls II and another two more in 2017 and 2018 with Louisville City. In 2019 with Louisville, he was instrumental in winning the Eastern Conference Championship. Williams was named the USL Championship’s Player of the Week in 2021 after scoring a brace against Pittsburgh Riverhounds SC.

Over the course of his most successful years, the Jamaican footballer also played consistently for the Jamaican national team, Williams has represented the Reggae Boyz 23 times, including the 2019 CONCACAF Gold Cup where they reached the semifinals before losing to USA 3-1.

Brendan Burke, Switchbacks’ general manager who is also the head coach has expressed his delight at the signing of the new player. As part of his response, he said, “Speedy is a player that has won the whole thing three times; he has every tool you would want.”

He continued, “He will bring high-end quality and leadership to our locker room, and the hope is that his experience winning titles at this level and in CONCACAF with Jamaica will carry us through the most critical parts of the season.”
