Rick’s Café Managers Say They are Not Guilty of Breaching DRMA

On Tuesday morning both Thomas Martin, the Operations Manager of Rick’s Cafe, and the Financial Controller Conroy Barrett, pleaded not guilty to the charges they faced, under the Disaster Risk Management Act along with other breaches, when they were before the judge in the Westmoreland Parish Court.

Attorney-at-law, Peter Champagnie, represented both men and they were ordered to return to court on August 9, 2021.

Their attorney invited the prosecution to review the case file in regards to Conroy Barrett, and the invitation was accepted. Another date has been set for the matter.

The Westmoreland police had charged the men for the hosting of the controversial Mocha Fest party in May, due to the fact that entertainment activities of that kind were banned under the DRMA.

Martin and Barrett are now charged with breaches of the spirit licence act and breaches of the amusement licence act.

Martin is also facing a charge for breaching the disaster risk management act as well.
