Fraser-Pryce took to social media to express her enormous gratitude to the Penwood Church of Christ Early Childhood Institution, where she started her academic journey and ran her first race.
She wrote, “No matter where I go I will always carry my community with me. They have been on every journey with me, and been my source of pride and inspiration.”
It continued, “It was hard to keep this news quiet for so long but I’m finally excited to announce that the very place I learned my ABCs, and ran my first race- Penwood Early Childhood Institution is now The Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Early Childhood Institution!!! “
The institution, which is located in Waterhouse, St. Andrew, was newly branded the Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Early Childhood Institution. Fraser-Pryce’s excitement, gratitude, and astonishment could be felt through her words on Twitter as she described the institution and its occupants as family to her.
The elite athlete averred that the people at the institution never held back in their words and cheers of encouragement, which she believes helped to propel her to the high level of success she has now achieved.
As a renowned athlete who is widely known as the greatest female sprinter in the world, she also declared that it felt amazing to be giving back to one of the roots of her success and that she would do so in any way she could.
