Serena Williams has fiercely rejected claims that she’s lightened her skin following speculation sparked by a recent viral video.

The retired tennis legend took to Instagram Live on Monday to set the record straight, saying, “No, I do not bleach my skin,” in response to the online chatter.

The rumours surfaced after Williams posted footage from her daughter’s school play, with some social media users commenting on the apparent change in her skin tone.

Williams explained that the difference in her appearance was due to a combination of factors, including natural sunlight and the stage makeup she wore while assisting backstage.

“There’s a thing called sunlight, and in that sunlight, you get different colors,” she clarified, emphasizing that the lighting had caused her skin to appear lighter in the video.

While Williams made it clear she has no issue with others choosing to alter their appearance, she affirmed her pride in her natural beauty. “I am a dark Black woman, and I love who I am and how I look,” she said.
