Shab Don’s Lawyers Says Murder Charge is “Mistaken Allegation”
Shab Don’s lawyers are preparing for court, where they are confident of proving the murder charge handed down was a “malicious or mistaken allegation”. Donahue Martine, one of Shab Don’s attorneys spoke to the Jamaica Observer on Sunday, sharing that while the court date has not been finalized, they “are prepared to defend” themselves.
Shab Don, born Linval Thompson Jr, was charged on Saturday with three counts of murder following an interview and an identification parade where he was pointed out. The CEO of Shab Don Records was charged by the Major Investigations Division after his arrest was made on June 3 by the Joint Anti-Gang Task Force (JAGTF) during a targeted operation in the St Catherine South Division.
Reportedly, Thompson Jr will also be contesting a previous case in the court as well. The other case is from an incident that occurred on October 21 on South Street In Old Harbour, St Catherine, when, according to the police report, he and co-accused Romario “BMR” Scott was caught travelling with an illegal gun that was loaded. The reports state the Specialized Operations SWAT team found the gun following a search and Thompson Jr allegedly attempted to bribe the police with $2 million.
Both Thompson Jr and Scott were charged. Scott, who pleaded guilty in April 2022, is serving six years and one month in prison for possession of firearm, as well as four years and one month for possession of ammunition. His sentence runs concurrently.
Popular producer Shab Don, who is the son of singer Linval Thompson, is the mastermind behind great songs such as Vybz Kartel’s “Any Weather”, Squash’s “Money Fever”, and “Shub Out” by Teejay.
