In one of the most anticipated races of the athletic season, American sprinter Sha’Carri Richardson secured her first 100m title at the World Athletics Championships, with Shericka Jackson and Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce finishing second and third, respectively.
On Sunday, Richardson clocked in the fastest time in the women’s 100m World Championships. All eyes were on the American, Jackson, and Fraser-Pryce for today’s meet, as they were all favourites to win the event.
Jamaican compatriots Jackson and Fraser-Pryce who was vying for her sixth title in the event, rocketed out of their lanes ahead of Richardson, with Jackson, in lane four, outpacing Fraser-Pryce in lane five.
But Richardson would foil them both seemingly appearing out of nowhere in lane 9 in the last stretch of the race, to win her first championship title in 10.65 seconds.
Jackson secured second place with 10.72 seconds, with the defending champion Fraser-Pryce finishing third with 10.77 seconds.
