Shanieka Ricketts Takes Silver in the Women’s Triple Jump at Paris Olympics

32-year-old Jamaican athlete Shanieka Ricketts won Silver in the Women’s Triple Jump on Saturday at the Paris Olympics. After advancing to the final with her first jump of 14.47m, she managed to improve with a season’s best jump of 14.87m in the final.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness took to social media to celebrate the accomplishment, stating, “What a sensational silver finish for Jamaica! 🇯🇲 Congratulations to Shanieka Ricketts on winning a silver medal🥈in the Women’s Triple Jump.”

He continues, “History was also made with Dominica winning their first medal at the Olympics as Thea LaFond claimed gold🥇#ShinningSilver #OlympicGames2024.”

With this accomplishment, Ricketts became the first Jamaican woman to medal in the triple jump at the Olympics. “It makes me feel happy,” she says while talking after the final.

She outlined to Nationwide that she wanted to jump further, however, she’s grateful for the season’s best.
