On her way to victory in the women’s 200m heat at the World Athletics Championships, five-time Olympic champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce took a few seconds to fix her signature coloured green wig while still managing to qualify for the semi-finals.
During the race, Fraser-Pryce can be seen running swiftly around the bend of the track, then momentarily raising her right hand to adjust her wig from slipping. After completion, she stated that she packed a total of 10 wigs in her bag from her home country and brought them for the event. This specific wig she said is the only one that she did herself.
“I had my hair done, coloured from home, and I packed them. I had different hair stylists here install them for me. This one I actually did myself,” she said.
Despite the minor wig adjustment, Fraser-Pryce managed to advance to the semi-finals by completing the race in a time of 22.26 seconds. Fellow Jamaican competitors and teammates also qualified; Elaine Thompson-Herah completed with a time of 22.27 seconds and Shericka Jackson with a time of 22.33 seconds.
