Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce Says “5 More Years” and Makes Lengthy Statement
Having competed in over a dozen World Athletic Championships, eight Olympic Games, and several other distinguished athletic events, at 36 years old, Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce is one of the most decorated athletes in history. Amidst her latest World Championships, Fraser-Pryce shared her love for the sport, penning a love letter to track and field.
The sprinter’s lengthy message at first evoked the emotions of an athlete about to depart from their sport, but Fraser-Pryce assured fans that there is still more to come from the pocket rocket.
Sharing moments from her recent medal ceremony in Budapest, Hungary, Fraser-Pryce described athletics as a driving force that has left her humbled by the knowledge she has gained over the years. The athlete expressed the feeling of certainty that came with every event, a confidence obtained by knowing she would get back whatever she gave.
The ten-time world champion explained that receiving a medal was simply the icing on the cake, as she had enjoyed every aspect of the sport.
“Track has been at the epicentre of my life as far back as I can remember. I savour every moment of the process, from training to the competition. Medaling is the icing on the cake, and that sweet tooth and desire grows more, year after year,” Fraser-Pryce stated.
Unsure if she could ever properly express how grateful she was for her fans, Fraser-Pryce thanked her many supporters, who have been a source of inspiration for her, fueling her passion for athletics, which has pushed her beyond her limits. Fraser-Pryce called the sportsmanship and mutual support displayed by her fellow athletes a blessing, noting that she would continue to perfect her craft as her journey on the track continued.
Fraser-Pryce’s fans expressed their relief in the comment section of her post to Instagram, with multiple viewers sharing they thought the sprinter would be announcing her retirement. Fraser-Pryce assured one fan that she would not be leaving track and field for five more years.
