Following her win at the national trials, an ecstatic Shericka Jackson shared that she had been determined before her race to set a new personal best and world-leading time for the 100m.
On day two of the Jamaica Athletics Administrative Association’s (JAAA) national trials, Jackson dominated the track in Kingston at the National Stadium.
The sprinter shattered the previously set world-leading time of 10.71 seconds, run by Sha’Carri Richardson at the US Track and Field Championships on Thursday.
In a high-spirited interview after her race, the 28-year-old could not hold back her excitement, declaring, “Mi jus mash up di stadium, mi jus mash up di stadium right tru,” just in case anyone had missed her race. Jackson’s 10.65-second win on Friday was manifested long before the athlete went on the track to defend her 100m title at the trials.
Jackson shared that prior to her race, she set 10.65 seconds as her goal on June 24, precisely at 1:26 p.m. According to Jackson, she was not always confident enough to share her goals with people but eventually decided to write them down and work hard towards them.
Jackson will represent Jamaica at the upcoming World Athletics Championships in Budapest, Hungary, in August, where she will be competing to defend her 2022 200m title and possibly walk away with the 100m title as well.
