Following a nationwide campaign in South Korea to confirm the well-being of undocumented infants born since 2015, a series of child abuse cases have been exposed, with 24 babies reported dead.

On Thursday, the father was arrested for killing his infant son and charged with murder and corpse abandonment.

According to reports from Yonhap News Agency, the deceased child’s maternal grandmother, who is in her 60s, was also detained for allegedly colluding with the father, who is in his 40s. The Grandmother will face the same charges, as the pair reportedly conspired together to commit the crime, which took place in March 2015.

The father is accused of deceiving the child’s mother into believing that the baby was going to die of natural causes. The man allegedly told his wife while she was still recovering from giving birth that the baby was born sick and would soon die.
