Spotify Hails Shenseea As DANCEHALL QUEEN

The very controversial question as to who is the Dancehall queen has once again surfaced, however this time the honourable title has been bestowed to the “Run Run”, songstress Shenseea, by world-renown music streaming platform Spotify.

Yardhype got the information when the @mixupjamaicans page posted a screenshot, showing a playlist curated by Shenseea, with an album artwork showing the female singjay and with the title Dancehall Queen over her head.

The is quite controversial as many people hail Spice as the Dancehall Queen with even the entertainer proclaiming herself as such in the year 2017 after a blistering Sumfest performance.

Officially it was being planned by Joe Bogdanovich’s team to have the “So Mi Like It” artiste crowned at the 2020 hosting of the event however it seems as if the ceremony was cancelled due to the reorganization of the event in reflex to the Covid-19 viral outbreak.

The comments section of the post by @mixupjamaicans was blowing up as fans of Spice came out rigidly to defend their artiste.

One fan who goes by the Instagram handle @itz_pinkii commented under the photo “Ayye Tek Dun Dat Blct Before Shot Affi Start Spray Like Water Yere Tf Is Dat Sheng Will Never Hold Dat Title”.

In response to that comment, another person who goes by the name @kxng__marquez wrote, “She is the best female dancehall artiste ATM, but Dem cah call her di queen yuh mad”.

Another person who goes by the name @iamkingo commented that “She’s pulling more #s than other dancehall artists”, then went to add “On every platform”, to show Shenseea’s top musical trajectory and respect.

Spice’s new album, “10”, is also doing well on the streaming platforms, debuting at number 6 on the Billboard Charts in its first week of release.

The controversy sparked by Spotify will definitely start violent conversations among the fans of the two great entertainers, and might even see many powerful industry players taking part to reach a final decision as to who is the real dancehall queen.

Notably, none of Spice’s songs was selected by Shenseea in the new ‘Dancehall Queen’ collection. The playlist included songs such as “Where We Come From” by Popcaan, “Yamabella” by Shaneil Muir, “Work” by Rihanna and Drake, “Brik Pan Brik” by Skillibeng, and more.

Spice had a chance to curate her own “Dancehall Queen” Spotify playlist last year in August.
