With an increased buzz surrounding the single ‘One More Night” (Gimme De Ting’) by Kalpee, international recording artiste Stefflon Don has teamed up with the Trinbagonian artiste on the track. Now entitled ‘Gimme De Ting’ featuring SteffLon Don, the track fuses the sounds of the islands with a taste of calypso, contemporary R&B, and dancehall. Since his announcement on his Instagram page, Kalpee has been receiving praise from his fan base for scoring the collab.
He is still riding high from over 7 million streams of his single ‘No One’, landing on Spotify’s viral top 50 in Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Philippines with his single ‘Colourful’, and placement in over 50 playlists worldwide including New Music Friday USA and Canada for his single ‘Love Letter’. He now believes that this single will open more doors for his music. He said, “If you had told me two years ago that Stefflon Don was to one day jump on one of my tracks I would have said … I do not believe it, as things like that do not happen to Trini musicians like me. Now fast forward to when I heard Stefflon Don wanted to jump on Gimme De Ting and I am not gonna lie, I was feeling my blessings”.
Stefflon Don has had continued international success and is known as a charismatic, multilingual, multitalented rapper, singer, and songwriter. Kalpee, who had a rewarding experience with the artiste added, “We linked up at her studio, she was honestly so cool, and on walking into the session she already had an idea down, which I knew would be dope and of course it was. Rest of the session we just chilled and spoke about music, life, home, and she also passed on some artistry knowledge which I will be applying in the future. I left that session believing in myself and my craft a little more, something that I’m extremely grateful for”.
Kalpee, who presently is in the United Kingdom, worked alongside The Anmls on this project. The Anmls are known for numerous projects with international acts such as The Weeknd, Future, French Montana, and Meek Mill, among others. They said, “Working with Kalpee on this song was such a gratifying process. We all work really well together and have such a natural flow. He’s a true musician with a great ear and, most importantly, knows what he wants to say”.
While he hails from Trinidad, Kalpee is inspired by the likes of Chronixx, Protoje, Bob Marley, and Jimmi Hendrix. He is now on the promotional trail and is eager to embark on his Caribbean Radio Tour later this year. This Friday Kalpee releases the official music video of ‘Gimme De Ting’ on his YouTube Channel as well as the official audio featuring Stefflon Don. The track is the lead single off his new EP, ‘Feel Good Playlist Vol. 1’ which also goes on pre-sale the 28th August 2020.
