Twenty two years ago saw the original release of It’s A Pity which was two years later featured on Stephen’s highly acclaimed album Gangsta Blues, which also features hits such as Tek Him Back, What’s Your Story, and Boom Wuk.

It’s A Pity lived up to the album’s title, delivering Stephen’s mix of gangsta energy and sensual aura, which she became known for.

The track finds the singer in the midst of a committed relationship yet still longing for another man, who is with another woman. As she sings her gangster blues, Stephen expresses how much she craves her lover and even the possibility of them having a child, though she knows that it can never come to pass.

Though she proposes a polygamous scenario where she and the man’s wife can share him in a civilised manner, she accepts the reality that they may never be together and wishes him well.

Some lyrics, “I said if we never get a chance to be together, go with Jah, Tanya love yuh. It’s a pity, you already have a wife and me done have a man inna mi life. Rudeboy, it is a pity. I say it is a pity, you already have yuh wife and me have a one-man inna mi life. Rude boy, it is a pity.”

“I woulda like one of these mornings to wake up and find your face on a pillow lying right next to mine. I woulda cut out the partying and the smoking and the rum and buss a extra wine and make we seal up a son,” Stephens sings on the track.
