As reported by LoopNews moments again, The Ministry of Transport and Mining has reach an agreement with Johnson’s Petroleum and United Petroleum to provide over 300 drivers who are partially or fully vaccinated $2,500 worth of gasoline.
The project which was launched online on Tuesday will start on October 15th and will continue into November, the proceedings will stop when the quota is reached.
To get the free gas, taxi drivers must received the first dose of the AstraZeneca, the Pfizer vaccine or the single-dose of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine.
Each taxi driver will also have to present identification in the form of an up-to-date road licence or badge before the free gas is granted.
Jamaica’s Minister of Transport and Mining Robert Montague spoke on the initiative on Tuesday, outlining that the government is partnering with private sector companies to help ensure that the majority of the population is vaccinated against the COVID-19.
“We implore the operators to go out, get vaccinated and redeem the voucher to get their $2,500 worth of gas. It is a very good initiative, and the Government and the private sector is moving to get as many persons as possible.”
He continued, “Johnson’s Petroleum and United Petroleum have extended themselves in this pandemic to help somebody and is encouraging others to be vaccinated because the spread of the virus can only be stopped by our actions.”
