The Sliding Jamaican Dollar

The Jamaican dollar surpassed the $136 mark for the first time against the $US, according to the trading summary from the Bank of Jamaica. The Jamaican dollar has lost ground heavily against the US dollar over the last few months.
The Opposition’s Spokesman on Finance has spoken about his concern for the poor who are already struggling because of the increased electricity and gas prices and he believes the Government is pursuing an unannounced policy.
However, the Minister without Portfolio in the Ministry of Finance and Public Service, Fayval Williams has stated that there are companies with foreign debt and they are doing debt restructuring and this has caused the movement in the US dollar.#104.87
However, on Wednesday the British pound Sterling closed at $174.92 from $173.24 and the Canadian closed at $104.87 from $105.06.
