In a new live chat, Tony Matterhorn expressed displeasure after not being awarded at the 2024 staging of the Caribbean Music Awards.
Scores of Caribbean entertainers gathered at the Kings Theatre in Flatbush, Brooklyn, in August to celebrate Caribbean music and culture. Among the awards were International DJ of the Year, with Barbadian disc jockey DJ Puffy walking away with this year’s award.
During the live stream done over the weekend, a disgruntled Matterhorn lashed out at the Caribbean Music Awards for not being recognised for his contribution and promotion of Caribbean music internationally.
Matterhorn questioned which Jamaican or artiste is as well-travelled as he is and is a fixture on the international scene, with the exception of Sean Paul and Shaggy.
The selector, who has also worked as an artiste, further stated that he is now so popular that even if someone does not know the Caribbean culture, they will know him regardless. He also expressed that he does not wish to compare himself to other selectors, as he is now above them.
“… Selector dem nuh in a my league. Mi above that league,” Matterhorn said.
As he continued to tout his status as an international DJ, Matterhorn said that he currently holds the record for the Jamaican who has travelled to Japan the most.
“Dem cyah size up wid mi. As a matter of fact, right now a me still hol di record of a Jamaican who has been to Japan di most. A mi have da record deh enuh. A 20 times mi guh Japan,” Matterhorn stated.
The Dutty Wine artiste went on to express that because of social media, a lot of people now think that they are international celebrities.
“Yuh si TikTok and dem sumting deh meck some a dem feel dem famous when dem not famous. People nuh know celebrity enuh. Celebrity a when yah walk true all airport. When mi come all di immigration know mi enuh… From wah day everybody tink seh dem a superstar enuh. If dem get couple fans pan di social media dem swear dem a somebody and dem a walk through airport and nuh body even a look pan dem,” Matterhorn said.
As he was not previously chosen, Matterhorn expressed that even if he is contacted by the award show’s organisers, he will only use the opportunity to further lash out at them.
“Mi dying fi dem bl**dcl**t seh Matterhorn meck a send dem up… yuh see from dah tall building deh… when mi tell dem seh go pan di tallest building and guh dive in a unuh mumma.”
