American actor Johnny Depp has filed a defamation lawsuit against his ex-wife Amber Heard in a Virginia courtroom. The two were reportedly married for the period 2015-2016 and both claimed to have been physically abused during their relationship.
Depp is suing Heard for a total of $50 million over domestic abuse allegations that she made in a 2018 op-ed she wrote for The Washington Post. In this, she described her marriage with the actor to be one where she suffered physical violence and abuse at his hands. Though Depp was not named in the article, he claimed that the contents thereof damaged his reputation and affected his career, costing him well-paid acting roles.
Amber Heard is countersuing for a total of $100 million over rampant physical violence and abuse by Depp.
The trial started on April 11 and is expected to last six weeks. Depp will be testifying in the courts and is expected to be cross-examined by Heard’s attorney today, April 25.
