U-Roy’s Funeral Set for May 19th

The farewell service for the Veteran Toaster U-Roy was scheduled to be held in Dovecot Memorial Park and Crematory in St Catherine on Wednesday, May 19, his partner Marcia Smikle revealed.

The funeral is set to begin at 1:00 pm. It is sad that Jamaica lost an Icon, but we are relieved to know he will be laid to rest. Smikle told a source that all the funeral arrangements are being handled by Perry’s Funeral Home in Spanish Town, St Catherine, and there will be a viewing planned for, May 17 at the Funeral Home.

The music veteran’s funeral initially was planned for March 25, with public viewing at the National Arena in Kingston, and a private viewing for family, after the interment.  However, the plans were changed when Prime Minister Andrew Holness announced increased restrictions in an effort to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus, a ban on burials was a part of the added restrictions.
