Usain Bolt’s 100m Record Sets New Record

Several years after his retirement from track and field, renowned Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt has set yet another record. Bolt currently has the longest-standing 100m record in the history of the sport.

Bolt first acquired the 100m world record title in May 2008 at the New York Reebok Grand Prix. A few months later, the athlete would stun audiences at the Beijing Olympics by topping his 9.72 finish with a new 9.69 record.

Bolt went on to top his own record again at the 2009 World Championships in Berlin with his currently unbeaten 9.58-second 100m win.

Despite retiring from the sport in 2017, his 100m record is yet to be topped by another sprinter and is currently held by the 37-year-old for 14 years and eight months.

The previous record for the longest-standing 100m record was held from 1968 to 1982 by American sprinter Jim Hines, who passed away in 2023.

While Bolt has expressed a fondness for his record titles and confidence that neither his 100m nor his 200m records will be broken soon, the former athlete recently shared in an interview that sprinter Noah Lyles has the potential to beat them.
