There is only 1 global university performance table to judge research-intensive universities across their core mission of teaching (the learning environment) international outlook ( staff, students and research) industry income (knowledge transfer) research ( volume, income and reputation and citation ( research influence)

UWI the only Caribbean institution on the worldwide list even though there are many other universities in the Caribbean. It has been placed in the elite band of universities worldwide because of the data that shows there are only 25000 recognized universities in the world.

The 70-year-old university was placed at #290 for it’s international outlook and at #370 for research influence.

Vice Chancellor, Hilary Beckles took over the reigns of the University in 2015 and he wanted it to be radically globalised and prepared for regional and global comparisons. He worked hard to make the necessary changes and now he is elated. He has said “the excellence of UWI has been kept a secret for far too long”. The Vice Chancellor is now ready to show the world all what the university has to offer.
