“He’s cool, he’s aright i guess, but i’m just not a fan of that,” said Vybz Kartel in his latest published interview when asked about his feelings towards Alkaline. In the interview, Vybz Kartel details that it was obvious that Alkaline used his persona etc in his early years.
Without Calling Alkaline’s name, Kartel labels him a “kid” at one point. Detailing that Alkaline got popular also because the younger generation wanted their own version of a Vybz Kartel.
“It’s not just because he does good songs, they just wanted their own Kartel and they got one.”
He was asked if there is a genuine issue between himself and Alkaline, “No there is no issue, i’ve never seen that kid before… I’m not a fan, i’m just not a fan,” said Kartel before giving a metaphorical answer when asked if Alkaline could performing at Freedom Street.
Kartel was asked about the possibility of himself and the Vendetta Boss uniting in the future if he gives him ‘props’ for ‘biting his style’ in the early stages of his career. The Portmore deejay replied stating, “No, no”.
“Because remember now i don’t need props from anyone but my fans… Why would i need props from someone that everyone knows is biting my style, biting my image, biting my persona… imitation is a type of flattery but, I’m not flattered.”
“That entire generation was raised on Kartel music,” Vybz Kartel outlines.
