Vybz Kartel Talks “Mental Damage”, Post-Prison Trauma, Music Plans ETC in TMZ Interview

Vybz Kartel has revealed some more untold details about his time in prison and how he’s dealing with his freedom in his latest interview which was released on Thursday. In the online chat, the Portmore deejay details his plans for making new music and views on Afrobeats.

In the interview with TMZ, he was asked about his reaction/feeling after finding out that he was a freeman for the first in almost 13 years, he replied saying, “Even now i haven’t processed it… Sometimes I fraid to post and i think i’m in prison.”

He also highlights not liking to hear the sound of keys rattling because it reminds him of prison guards.

Further on in the interview the 48-year-old talks about his experience on TikTok and gaining at least 700k followers on Instagram since his release. According to Kartel, he’s somewhat surprised by the support he has been getting from teenagers.

With regards to going into the studio to record new music, the deejay says that he hasn’t recorded new music since his release, instead, he has been in the Gym, trying to get fit and more healthy.

As it relates to his new look, Vybz Kartel says he was ‘overindulging’ in food in prison which was an escape for him, highlighting that it’s the reason for his large stomach which he’s now working on getting down.

He was next asked about Afrobeats taking over to which he said, “From time to time,” new genres rise but Dancehall music still has its place.

With regards to Buju’s recent comments on the topic, he said that there was some truth to Buju’s remarks, however, Afrobeats should be accepted, as is, because it’s not revolutionary music, instead it’s feel-good music and dance music, “escapist” music like Tems said.

When will Kartel release new music? The deejay said, “am not even focused on the studio as yet… hopefully before the concert i can hit the studio and start putting in the work.”
