Vybz Kartel Wins “Artiste of the Decade” at Caribbean Music Awards

With the first-ever staging of the Caribbean Music Awards taking place last night on August 31, 2023, incarcerated deejay Vybz Kartel walked away with the title of Artiste of the Decade after being nominated for the award.

The event kick-started at 8:PM last night in New York at the Kings Theatre, and some of the categories included Video of the Year (Soca), Music Event of the Year, People’s Choice (Fan’s Favourite), Artiste of the Decade, Performer of the Year (Soca, Dancehall), male and female Artiste of the Year, Kompa Band of the Year, Best New Artiste of the Year (multiple genres), and much more.

The award show was held to celebrate the achievements of Caribbean artistes from the year 2021 to 2022 and it covered 26 categories.

Taking the Artiste of the Decade award, a thank you message was posted to Vybz Kartel’s Instagram page which stated, “Caribbean Music Awards: Artiste of the Decade #vybzkartel Nuff Respect to C.M.A. , Nuf love to #GAZANATION ❤️🥂🍾 & Queen👑 @spiceofficial 💙💙💙 WITHOUT @1unogeneral NONE OF THIS POSSIBLE 🙏🏿.”

The award was presented by Spice who created excitement on the stage when she saw who the award was to be presented to. In the video showcasing the presentation, Spice looked at the card with the name, walked up and down the stage and then returned to state, “And the award goes to, my boss mi represent it everywhere mi go, Vybz Kartel.”

The comment section of the post was filled with well-wishers and fans, one of which said, “All inna prison the man a get award 🙌.”

Replying to the shout-out he got in the caption of the post, Bounty Killer (1unogeneral) wrote, “Salute son the work has been done so it’s only right to be given its dues congratulations🎉🍾🎈💫 .” Kartel was also congratulated by Renee630official and Busta Rhymes who called him “THE GREATEST!!”
