Vybz Kartel’s Appeal Latest Update: Privy Council to Announce Decision on Thursday
Following the final appeal by Kartel and his co-appellants at Jamaica’s final appellate court, the UK-based Privy Council on February 14 and concluded on February 15, many Jamaicans including attorney Bert Samuels thought the final decision by the council would have taken at least a couple of months to be announced.
However, in the latest update, the Privy Council published that the judgment in the case will be made public next Thursday, March 14 via a live stream at 11:00 a.m. Jamaican time.
The deejay and his co-appellants, Kahira Jones, Andre St. John, and Shawn Campbell, professionally known as Shawn Storm, are currently seeking to have their 2014 murder conviction for the death of Clive ‘Lizard’ Williams overturned by the Privy Council.
Following the Appeal, both Vybz Kartel and co-accused Shawn Storm have been making statements online about their ‘freedom’ this year.
On March 2, the Portmore Gaza leader wrote, “For #GazaGurlz ♥️🖖🏾 #free24 ( Badmind can’t stop it ),” as the caption for his post on Instagram, interestingly, the post was tagged with the song ‘I Want to Be Your Man’ by Roger.
According to Samuels, normally these cases take 2-3 months, he earlier outlined that the documents are lengthy with some 9000 pages for the Privy Council to go through, about 5 times the norm, hence was expecting a ruling on the appeal around “summer or late summer”.
