Woman Charged After New Born Baby’s Body Found in St. Mary River

On Thursday, February 4th a St. Mary woman is scheduled to face the judge in court to answer to charges of concealment of birth, as the body of a newborn baby was discovered in a river in Belfield district in the same parish.

Reniesha Smith who is now 27-years-old of a St Mary address was charged.

The Highgate Police reported that approximately 5:10 p.m., the body of the baby boy who appeared to be a new born was found in a river in the area.

Someone called the police and the body was removed from the water and taken to the morgue where it awaits a post mortem.

After an investigation was launched, Smith was arrested on Friday, January 29, but she was charged on Monday, February 01, 2021.
