The national male sprint champion of Jamaica, Kishane Thompson is not surprised that he ran a PB and world-leading time of 9.77s at the national trials in Kingston at the National Stadium. “It’s a feeling of… i would say it does not feel new to me, for some sense.”

He went on to detail that he always imagined and visualised the achievement, hence he sees it as a goal done and he’s looking forward to achieving more on the track.

According to the latest Jamaican track star, in the first round, he wanted to ‘execute’ the race in a fashion whereby he slowed down about 75 metres into the race, however, he was unable to slow down like he wanted to, his momentum brought him through, causing him to clock 9.8.

After that race, he was informed by coach Stephen Francis that he should go slower ‘next time’. Additionally, after clocking that time, Thompson was tested.

In the semi-finals, he ran another 9.8 time, something he said he was not happy with because he expected Francis to scold him again, “bwoy mi ago get cussing again enuh” he said to himself after clocking the time. however, when he communicated with Francis his response was, “no man its ok yuh just too fast.”

Thompson recalls telling coach Francis that he tried to slow down and Francis’ reply was “nuh worry yuh soon know fi dweet.”

The joint 9th fastest human to ever run on a racing track, Kishane Thompson, in the Interview done by TVJ outlines that the sport has become a part of his DNA and he has studied the greats and knows of the record times and who achieved them.

He was asked, “How fast can you go?” he replied stating that he will answer that question “next month”. Thompson revealed that he prioritizes his “technical” ability over winning a race or clocking the fastest time, “up until this time I’ve always think on my execution.”
