Griffiths pleaded guilty on June 21 to the murder of his common-law spouse, 50 years old Mourine Johnson. An arson charge was dropped due to a lack of evidence.

Word reaching the court was that Griffiths and Johnson were arguing at their home in Buff Bay in the night hours of August 20, 2019.

The argument turned physical when Griffiths used a knife to cut his spouse’s throat and stabbed her in the abdomen.

Elroy then fled the scene after disposing of the knife in their neighbour’s yard.

A fire was then seen coming from the house. Eyewitnesses claimed that the fire started in Ms. Johnson’s room, then spread to other areas of the residence. Miss Johnson’s burnt remains were found on the verandah.

On January 18, 2021, a raid by security forces resulted in Griffiths’ capture.

He will be eligible for parole after serving 12 years in prison.
