3 Killed Including Father and Daughter in Westmoreland Accident

As per reports, tragedy struck in Little London, Westmoreland Friday night when a major motor vehicle crash resulted in the loss of three lives, including that of a father and his 14-year-old daughter. The incident, which occurred around 9:40 p.m. along Bay Road in the parish, also left six individuals hospitalized with injuries.

Among the deceased are 48-year-old Alwyne Savariau, a welder from Friendship, and his daughter Shanique Savariau, a student at Godfrey Stewart High School, hailing from Strawberry district. Additionally, 43-year-old Owen Barnes of Good Hope, all residents of Westmoreland, tragically lost their lives in the crash.

According to police reports, the collision involved a Hiace motor truck and a Toyota Corolla motor car. The Hiace truck, heading towards Negril, and the Corolla, travelling in the opposite direction towards Savanna-la-Mar, collided, resulting in the fatal accident.

The sequence of events leading to the collision reveals that the Hiace truck, after negotiating a corner, failed to keep left and subsequently crashed into the Corolla, leading to the tragic loss of lives.

Inspector Coya Williams, the Acting Zone Four Commander for the Westmoreland Police Division, confirmed the details of the accident on Saturday morning. As reported by the Jamaica Observer, the crash claimed the lives of both drivers.
