9 CSEC 1s – Campion College Student Excels Despite Multiple Difficulties – Zantaye Annaleise Thomas
Zantaye Annaleise Thomas is a 19-year-old Campion College student from May Pen, Clarendon, whose story of hard work and perseverance in attaining educational success despite financial challenges and distance has become an inspiration to many.
Thomas was the Deputy head girl of the school located in St. Andrew and sometimes had to wake at 3 a.m. to traverse from her community in May Pen. This was not an easy road for the teenager as she had to strike a balance between academics, extra-curricular and leadership positions.
But, through hardwork and determination, she persevered and made not only herself, but her family and alumni proud.
In the Caribbean Secondary Examination Council (CSEC) examinations, she achieved a total of nine subjects in grade ones. These include mathematics, additional mathematics, English language, English literature, French, Spanish, geography, chemistry and information technology.
Additionally, in the Caribbean, Thomas placed 5th for geography and 9th for French. However, in Jamaica, she secured the #1 spot for geography and #4 spot for French.
Her successes did not stop there, as she also received exceptional results in Caribbean Advanced Proficiency Examination (CAPE). For Unit 1, she got straight 1’s for communication studies, geography, Spanish, and French. In Unit 2, she received grade 1’s for Caribbean studies, geography and Spanish, and a grade 2 in French.
Optimistic about the future, the Clarendon native now boards at the University of the West Indies, Mona where she is pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Integrated Marketing Communications. She also intends to do a double major in French and Spanish.
Thomas’ future aspirations are to work in marketing and communications, as well as to become a Jamaican sign language interpreter and a French or Spanish interpreter and translator. She is also the founder of Sign Clubs of Jamaica.
