Earthquake Rocks Jamaica Early Wednesday Morning
Jamaicans across the island felt a 4.8 magnitude earthquake about 7:30 AM on Wednesday, August 26th. According to the Earthquake Unit at the University of the West Indies, the quake was located at approximately 8 kilometres east of the Mile Gully community in Manchester and had a focal depth of 24 kilometres.
Based on reports on social media the earthquake-affected Kingston, St Andrew, St Ann, St Catherine, Manchester, Hanover, St Elizabeth Clarendon, St James and also the parish of Trelawny.
It was initially reported by the earthquake.usgs.gov that the tremor’s magnitude was 4.5 however further investigation reveals that it was actually a 4.8 magnitude earthquake.
No serious injury nor destruction has been reported so far.
