Saatchi Gallery in London is all set to host ‘The Bob Marley One Love Experience’, this is a 10-week long exhibition which kicks start in February.
A collection of photographs taken by French photographer Jean-Bernard Sohiez is said to be the high point of the show; these images have never-before-been-seen. The photos were taken in 1980 at Marley’s Kingston residence a year before his death.
This experience offers a showcase of unseen Marley photographs along with memorabilia while submerging the audience into the journey and the passions of the legend.
Over 42 years ago Sohiez toured the reggae scene in the UK extensively before coming to Jamaica. Marley had a deep love for football and many of the shots taken of the King getting ready to play this sport was taken by Sohiez who died in June of last year.
In an interview given to guardian.com, Ziggy Marley spoke of his father’s love for sports. “He was fanatical”. Ziggy states that sports were a big part of his father’s life. He also revealed that his father was not just a lover of football, but he also loved boxing, running, and table tennis.
Bob Marley was known to be a “sporty guy”.
The exhibition promises to host numerous spaces dedicated to the many facets of Bob’s life, it even promises a room designed to capture the ambience of Jamaica to include smell, sounds and visuals.
A massive vinyl of the 1984 compilation album of some of Marley’s greatest work ‘Legend’ will also be displayed.
The Bob Marley musical Get Up! Stand Up! Opened in the UK last October where he had one of his largest followings.
The Reggae King died in 1981 of cancer, he was only 36.
