4 Police Arrested For Being Apart Of Notorious Clarendon-Based Gang
In a statement released by the Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson on Friday, March 25, he revealed that as a result of a series of operations conducted across the island, 12 gang members were arrested, 4 of which are members of the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF).
Further to that disclosure, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Fitz Bailey revealed that a joint investigation between the Counter-Terrorism and Organized Crime Investigations Branch (CTOC), the Criminal Investigations Branch (CIB) along with other formations within the JCf led to the capture of those members linked to the notorious Clarendon-based Ranco Gang.
Leader of the criminal network, Police Constable Tafari Silvera who was assigned to the St. Andrew South Police Division was arrested. Silvera is also being charged in connection with the fatal shooting of another member of the gang, who was suspected to be an informant to the police.
The three other police constables arrested are Teshneil Francis, Danilo Barnes and Roy Morris.
DCP Bailey informed that this investigation commenced in 2021, due to a series of robberies that were reported to which they suspected that JCF officers were involved.
Further updates provided by the DCP revealed that between the periods 2019-2021, members of the Ranco gang committed several crimes in the parishes of Clarendon, Manchester, St.Elizabeth, St.Catherine, St.Mary, Trelawny, Kingston, St.Andrew and St.James.
Their crimes include shootings, burglary, robbery with aggravation, illegal possession of firearms, abduction, shop breaking and larceny, unlawful possession of the property, conspiracy to murder, and malicious destruction of property.
DCP Bailey declared that 27 members of the Ranco gang have been identified so far, with at least 8 being members of the JCF. He also shared that a police officer aligned with the gang immediately fled the island upon the news of the alleged gang leader, Police Constable Tafari Silvera’s arrest.
