Bible Study Teacher Charged For Raping 12-YO Girl

A man who taught bible study at a church in Downtown, Kingston appeared in the Home Circuit Court on Monday, May 16, where he was convicted of rape, grievous sexual assault and two counts of indecent assault of a minor.

Based on reports, the child’s foster parents were leaders of the church to which the “religious man” taught bible study for children. He was reportedly also a close acquaintance of the child’s foster father and would usually visit the family’s home to have prayer meetings.

The sexual assaults occurred on at least three different occasions between the periods 2017 to 2018 and started when the child was 11-years-old.

In 2017, the man allegedly touched the minor inappropriately on her genitals and again repeated the same act on March 6, 2018, when she was 12 years old and preparing to undertake the Primary Exit Profile (PEP) examinations.

The final incident happened just days after the second when on March 9, 2018, the child was reportedly seated on the hallway steps of her home when the man forcibly lured her down the steps into a secluded area where she was raped. The child was also ordered to perform a sexual act on him.

On March 13, 2018, the man was arrested and charged after the child’s guardian accosted him to the police after a complaint was made by the minor. He was subsequently found guilty of the charges laid by a jury of seven persons.

He is scheduled for sentencing on June 16, 2022.
