Over $100-Million Worth Of Marijuana Seized From Businessman On Portmore Toll Road
A 37-year-old businessman from a St. Elizabeth address was arrested on Thursday on the Portmore Toll Road in St. Catherine after marijuana worth more than $100 million was found in his motor vehicle.
Reports are that during a joint operation at about 8:00 a.m. between police officers of the Narcotics Division and the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch, a 2013 Toyota Hiace bus that was transporting processed food for export was stopped and searched.
This led to the seizure of over 700lbs of marijuana concealed within tins marked as canned food. It has an estimated street value of approximately US $850,000 or JMD 128,820,025.24.
The police believe that a taxi driver by the name of Anthony ‘Sprang’ Murray of Mike Town in Manchester can aid in the investigation and urges him to contact the Narcotics Division.
Investigations are ongoing and no charges have been laid against the businessman as yet.
