Man Receives a Life Sentence For Raping Teen and Her Mother
A British man received a life sentence on Monday following his brutal attack on a mother and her 14-year-old daughter in March.
Joshua Carney, 28, had only been released from prison for five days when he forcefully entered the Cardiff, Wales, home of a woman and her daughter on March 1. According to reports from the BBC, the mother was preparing for work when she heard noises outside and discovered Carney barefooted and dishevelled when she went to check. Carney, who was described as a career burglar during court proceedings, then forced his way into the house and locked the door behind him.
While inside, Carney hit the woman repeatedly, threatened to stab her, and then raped her while her daughter was upstairs; the teen had locked herself inside one of the bedrooms and called the police.
Carney, eventually gaining entry into the room, raped the daughter repeatedly, telling the mother, “Watch me, look what I am doing to her.”
He then raped the mother again, this time forcing the daughter to watch. After which, he sexually assaulted the daughter again and told her it was her punishment for calling the police.
After police arrived at the house and arrested Carney, he told officers that he had no recollection of the incident, claiming to have been high on Spice, a form of synthetic marijuana. Carney would later plead guilty in court, with the presiding judge describing his actions as sadistic and the stuff of nightmares.
Both victims told the court that they were still traumatized after the assault, with the daughter stating in a letter that she felt so disgusted that she was now unable to hug or kiss her father.
