Teen Killed in Westmoreland Months After Brother and Father’s Murders
Delano Gayle, a teenager whose brother and father were murdered months apart in Whithorn, Westmoreland, was shot and killed by gunmen in the same community last Saturday night.
The 19-year-old construction worker was accosted and shot dead in his home on Saturday, September 24, and his grandfather was also injured during the attack. Gayle’s grandfather, who is 84 years old, was subsequently taken to the hospital.
Reportedly, at around 11:40 PM, Gayle was at home with his grandfather, along with other family members, when they became aware of a piercing pounding on the back door after which it was kicked open. Two men emerged from the entrance wielding firearms before firing a hail of bullets at Gayle. In fear for his life, Gayle tried to escape to his grandfather’s room, but the gunmen continued to fire in his direction, said police. The shooters then left the area on foot.
Gayle was discovered with numerous gunshot wounds to his upper body after the gunfire was abated, and his grandfather was found afflicted by bullet wounds to both his legs. The Victim succumbed to his wounds at the hospital and his grandfather was admitted.
Prior to the incident, Derron, Gayle’s 23-year-old brother, was killed by gunmen at a wake that was being held in the community on June 24, 2022. His father, Derick Gayle, was also shot on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, and died on Monday, May 2, 2022. They were both buried two weeks ago.
Law enforcement sources stated that Gayle was a witness to his father’s shooting and that there had been multiple attempts made on his life before the fatal incident.
A man recognized as Theodore Reid, otherwise known by the moniker of ‘Peckus’, was accused of Derron’s (Gayle’s brother) murder.
Reid was apprehended by the constabulary subsequent to being featured on the police’s ‘Wanted Wednesday’ movement on Friday, July 1, 2022. Reid, a resident of the Ancho district of Whithorn in Westmoreland, gave himself up to the police, accompanied by his attorney on Sunday, July 3, 2022, and afterwards charged.
