Dancehall entertainer Mavado will know on Friday, October 13, if he was approved by the courts to give testimony via video link for the lawsuit filed against Jennifer Messado, the disbarred lawyer who allegedly defrauded him a sum of $30.7 million in 2018.
Attorney-at-law, Oswest Senior Smith disclosed that the case was postponed on Friday when it was mentioned in the Kingston and St Andrew Parish Court. This was due to the prosecutor being engaged in another session in the Home Circuit Court.
In July, the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) was tasked by Mavado’s attorney to secure information on whether the entertainer has any warrants out for his arrest in Jamaica. A condition of being approved to give testimony while in the United States is that there is none outstanding.
Reports state that the ODPP was scheduled to submit its findings by September 29, 2022.
Nonetheless, the “I’m So Special” deejay has publicly declared that his lawyers, locally and internationally, have been in constant communication with the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) and no mention has been made about an arrest warrant out for him.
Reportedly, in 2018, David Brooks o/c Mavado paid a sum of $30.7 million to Messado who advised that she was acting on behalf of the owner to sell the Kingston 8 upscale neighbourhood property.
However, he later found out that the deal was bogus and a report was subsequently made to the police. Messado was then charged with obtaining money by false pretence and reportedly reimbursed Mavado $7 million out of the money of the total amount.
