PM Holness Removes Addition to His Salary – Watch Video
Amidst widespread disapproval of the upcoming significant increase in salary payment for government members, Prime Miniter Andrew Holness announced on Monday that the people of Jamaica influenced him to retract the additional amount that was going to be added to his salary.
“In demonstrating my understanding of the concerns of our citizens, I have directed the Transformation Implementation Unit to remove my compensation from the new salary scale. This means that my compensation will remain at its previous level,” stated Holness on Monday
He went on to outline that, “It is important that the country is assured that its leader symbolically and truthfully understands their concerns. I do. Therefore, I have directed the TIU to remove the Prime Minister’s compensation from the new salary scale.”
With that said, it would appear that all the other members of the government will accept the increase with the leader of the opposition(PNP) earlier outlining that he will give a percentage of his increased salary back to the people who need it the most.
Since the recent announcement of the increase in the government’s salaries, Jamaicans, journalists, artistes, church leaders, teachers etc have voiced their strong comments against the move by the government of Jamaica.
After announcing his decision, PM Hoilnes went on to outline that he believes that the country will see better work being done by the beneficiaries of the increase.
