Despite the trend in dancehall to sing about controversial topics such as Obeah (Guzu), scamming, and violence, dancehall/reggae artiste Tripple Gs will not be influenced to praise them in his music. The deejay recently shared that he only desires to create uplifting music, even though other entertainers are making waves in the industry by praising illegal activities.
The New York-based deejay, who hails from Montego Bay, grew up in a Christian household and attended church, where he was a member of the choir. His mother, a dedicated Christian, was not a fan of secular music, but she supported her son nonetheless when she discovered that he was pursuing a career in dancehall.
The artiste expressed that he lost his cousin to violence, and he decided to pursue reggae music instead of taking the road to crime.
“How mi transition to reggae now was after mi lose mi cousin, mi did kinda like deh ina one likkle dark spot, and dah dark spot deh almost mek mi cross over. But mi give thanks to good friends…Mi seh you know wah, mi ago put di pain ina di music,” he told Jaii Frais during the episode of Lets Be Honest.
He continued by explaining that his songs are inspired by his experiences in life.
When asked if he would follow the trend in dancehall, he said, “There is definitely some topics weh yuh know Tripple Gs nah go go deh so.” While he stated that Guzu was a definite no, some of the controversial topics he did include in his music would not be too explicit since his daughter listens to his songs.
He also added that he was supposed to do a collaboration with Vybz Kartel, but it did not happen. Tripple Gs continued by saying that he would like to do songs with Teejay, Jah Vanci, Jahmeil, and producers Romeich Major and Rvsssian.
