Son of American Man Who Was Killed for $30 Million Inheritance Reveals Money Was a Scam
The son of Steven Edward Riley Jr., who was allegedly killed by his longtime girlfriend over a $30 million inheritance, has revealed that the money was an online scam.
According to Riley’s son, Ryan, his father was contacted via email by someone who said they were the lawyers of a distant, unknown relative. The individual convinced Riley that he had inherited a massive $30 million and that he would sign over the money when they met at the airport.
Riley had already started planning how he would spend the fortune, telling his son that he would give him and some of his siblings a share, open an auto shop, and purchase acres of land. Riley’s girlfriend, who he had reportedly been with for five years, found out that he planned on leaving her after receiving his inheritance and allegedly poisoned him with antifreeze.
He became ill while at the airport to meet the lawyer and died the following day. The girlfriend, Ina Thea Kenoyer, planned to claim the inheritance as Riley’s common-law wife but was later arrested for his murder.
Following his father’s murder, Ryan revealed to the press that the couple fell for an online scam and that no lawyer went to the airport to meet his father. Ryan shared that Riley and Kenoyer were not happy, and his father had planned on leaving her for some time.
According to Ryan, Kenoyer was extremely lazy and leeched off of his father, who was a caring person. Kenoyer was charged with Riley’s murder on Monday and faces a maximum sentence of life in prison without the possibility of parole.
