The Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF) has seen improvement in the seizure of illegal firearms, they record an increase in the number of weapons seized by the Force when compared with the same period from last year.

The institution boosted its efforts in 2023 to crack down on criminals, gang violence, and the amount of illegal guns spread across the island. Various methods including joint operations and also creative methods of using their online presence on social media to make funny posters to advertise monetary rewards for locating guns were used.

According to a post on the JCF’s X social media page, it is “More than just seizures, we’re building a safer Jamaica.”

They outlined that it was a combination of “proactive community engagement,” dedication, and “swift action against illegal firearms,” that has gotten them to where they are. As opposed to last year when only 30 guns were taken off the streets in January, this year boasts an increase of 65 guns being seized.

However, the JCF also stated that “It’s about the lives we’re protecting and the communities we’re empowering,” and not just a race to see how many guns they can remove from the country’s communities.
