At the 51st iteration of the games, held at the Kirani James Athletics Stadium in St. George’s, Grenada, athletes engaged in two days of fervent competition.

This year, the games not only highlighted individual and team excellencies but also underscored the evolving sporting landscape within the Caribbean, with Jamaica, a perennial powerhouse, continuing its dominance by amassing an impressive haul of 49 medals across various events.

This performance underlines Jamaica’s leading position in regional athletics. However, not everyone is happy about this dominance as shown in the now circulating video which was shared by Questimes on Instagram.

“Winning the gold medal what does that means to you?” the athlete was asked, the athlete proudly wearing a Trinidad flag around his shoulders stated, “Well it means a lot it’s what I have been training for, to beat them Jamaicans because them Jamaicans.. dem soft… soft!”

While we don’t have information on which event the young man won his gold medal in, we have the video from the interview to show.

The CARIFTA Games, inaugurated in 1972 by the Caribbean Free Trade Association, stands as a hallmark annual athletics contest within the Caribbean region, emphasizing the rich sporting talent and competitive spirit among its member nations.

These games, which first took off over four decades ago, have become a pivotal platform for young athletes, categorizing competitions into two age groups: under-17 and under-20, the former adjusting its age limit from under-18 in 2017.

Participants from CARIFTA-associated countries vie in a diverse array of track and field disciplines, ranging from sprints, hurdles, middle-distance races, to jumping, throwing, and relay events, showcasing their athletic prowess.
