Digicel Rising Star winner Dalton Harris is now an award-winning producer and has doubled down, saying that he will not be changing just to please his Jamaican critics.

Dalton, who is also a past winner of the UK’s X Factor, produced and created the documentary Dalton’s Dream. His documentary was crowned the 2024 Best Documentary at Miami’s Outshine LGBTQ+ Film Festival.

In a lengthy statement on Facebook, the singer expressed awe following his award win. Dalton, who has faced backlash since coming out as gay, also addressed his critics, declaring that the joke is on them as he has accomplished so much and continues to do well.

“I have accomplished so much.  More than most your children you raised yet you come on social media to tell me what I should or shouldn’t be doing. And use God as an excuse. Please don’t waste your time. I won’t change,” Dalton wrote.

Recollecting the hardships of his childhood, he further expressed that his critics could only have a right to tell him what to do if they could go through what he has and still accomplish what he has. Dalton shared that he was abused both physically and emotionally by his mother, who made him believe that he was ugly and often left him bloodied and scarred.

According to Harris, after years of being neglected and ill-treated, he was kicked out by his mother. Yet the singer says he returned to help his family, including his mother, whom he has since reconciled with.

Dalton went on to highlight all the hard work he has put into his life and career, emphasising that he was able to migrate legally without the help of family or a sham marriage. The singer also called out Bounty Killer, who criticised him when rumours first began to spread that he is gay.

“I worked hard and have great agents and I don’t yell into a microphone on a board stage then say pull up like bounty killer the man who I don’t know but had so much to say to his little audience. That’s when I realized I was on a different level. And doing something big cuz I’m in his mouth like vagina,” Dalton wrote.
