Over the past month, several top-tier Dancehall artistes have released hard-hitting gunman songs with others expecting to follow the pace in the coming weeks.

Leading the pack, as it relates to songs that appeal to the streets the most at the moment is Squash with ‘Get Up’, Chronic Law’s ‘ATL’ is at the 8th spot on Jamaica’s YouTube trending for music, while Jahvillani’s ‘M16’ is at 24 spot, rounding off some of the newly released gunman songs.

As it relates to other songs released after summer that are dominating the streets, Kraff’s ‘IKATION’ and Najeeriii’s ‘One Rifle’ are in heavy rotation islandwide.

On the other hand, Masicka previewed a grimy track titled ‘Whites’ which has been getting immense feedback since being previewed on Friday. The song is on the same riddim as Squash’s ‘Get Up’.

Alkaline is also making his voice be heard as the war season heats up with his latest release titled ‘Dangerous Youth’, this track has fueled expectations for more gangster songs from Alkaline with many hoping for a part two of the Alkaline and Vybz Kartel lyrical war.

With that said, Vybz Kartel is the most desired in the lyrical battlefield, having released mainly girl songs since his release from prison, notably, he’s yet to drop a hard-hitting gunman song since being a freed-man again, almost three months ago.

It’s well established that each year in Dancehall, from around October to January, both top-tier and upcoming artistes trade disses via songs, leaving fans to decide who has better battle skills.

As customary in the past, the lyrical feuds would be settled at Sting in December, however, that seems very unlikely, with the Freedom Street Concert threatening to cause a low turnout for this year’s staging of the iconic show.

Demarco also recently dropped a lyrically bad track entitled ‘Warn Dem’, he has stated on multiple occasions that he’s the second-baddest artiste in Dancehall, second only to Vybz Kartel.

Over the past 15 years, some of the most popular male clashes in Dancehall involve Mavado and Kartel trading diss songs, Mavado vs Popcaan, Alkaline vs Popcaan, Jahmeil vs Chronic Law, Tommy Lee vs Jahmeil, Valiant vs Teejay.

However, fans have yet to see Masicka take on a clash in Dancehall since his elevation to being one of the top young deejays is the genre. His last clash was with Kalada and Demarco, years before his back-to-back hit albums.

The two most called-for clashes in Dancehall at the moment is a clash between Vybz Kartel and Alkaline and or a clash between Masicka and Alkaline because these three artistes are considered to be the most lyrical artistes in the genre over the past 15 years.

A clash between Mavado and Kartel would also be exciting, except for the fact that they have been cordial in recent times, after all, they share the same roots in Dancehall, stemming back to Bounty Killer who recently speaker out against clashes, sighting its negative impact during the Drake and Kendrick Lamar battle.

Notably, the last popular clash in Dancehall was between Valiant and Teejay, before that, at the start of 2024, Jada Kingdom and Stefflon Don went at each other over Burna Boy, a clash that made headlines worldwide.

Only time will tell which top Dancehall artistes will go at each other during this war/clash season.
